Music

Fọlákẹ́ Olówófôyèkú — known musically as Fọlákẹ́ (aka The.Fọlákẹ́!) — is a Nigerian-born artist, actress, and audio engineer whose music bridges continents and cultures. She creates immersive soundscapes that marry Afrobeat with experimental and cinematic elements.

Born in Lagos, Fọlákẹ́ grew up surrounded by rhythm and storytelling. After relocating to New York, she earned a B.A. in Theater from The City College of New York and trained in audio engineering at the Institute of Audio Research, enabling her to sculpt her sound with precision and intention.

Performing under Fọlákẹ́, she plays electric guitar and produces songs that pulse with ancestral cadence while exploring universal themes of identity, belonging, and rebirth. Her distinctive sound was first showcased in her self-produced 2012 release The.Fọlákẹ́!, a genre-bending project that fused electronic production with West African rhythms and poetic vocals.

Her versatility also led her to appear as a bass guitarist in David Bowie’s acclaimed music videos “The Stars (Are Out Tonight)” and “The Next Day.”

Millions also know Fọlákẹ́ as the star of CBS’s hit series Bob ❤️ Abishola, where she not only brought her vibrant performance to screen but also infused the show with music — including incorporating a Nigerian classic, “Omode Mẹ́ta” by Plantation Boys, and her own original song “Ìfẹ́ Yì Dún,” written and produced in collaboration with 2jo.

In December 2024, Fọlákẹ́ joined an ensemble of global artists on the original soundtrack of Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King, contributing vocals to the track “Bye Bye,” composed by Lin-Manuel Miranda and performed alongside Mads Mikkelsen and Joanna Jones.

This milestone marks a defining moment in her artistic evolution — connecting her to a global franchise while amplifying her voice as a Nigerian-born, world-rooted musician.

Today, Fọlákẹ́ continues to expand her discography, perform internationally, and traverse the worlds of music, film, and storytelling — always grounded in cultural integrity and sonic innovation.
